The Zookeeper's High Adventure

In the early dawn, with a puff and a smile,
The zookeeper stumbles, but he's more than fine,
With a bag full of snacks, and a plan to beguile,
He’ll feed the giraffes, no concern for the time.
“Oh, look at those zebras! They look so sublime!”
His coworkers chuckle, “What’s up with that style?”

As he wanders around, lost in his cheer,
The monkeys are laughing, they know all his tricks,
“Oh waiter! Two bananas, and some ice cold beer!”
The lions just yawn, but they share in the mix,
With a wink, and a grin, he’s in no moods to fix,
The rhythms of work that seem disappear.

He dances with peacocks, they flaunt their fine tails,
While the flamingos stand baffled, “What’s wrong with this guy?”
He trips on his shoelace, and nobody fails,
To giggle and point, as he reaches for sky,
“Is it me or the zebras that’re starting to fly?”
“Next time,” he shrugs, “I’ll inhale fewer trails.”

As noon strikes the hour, he finally sits down,
A parade of the animals gather ‘round him,
And the tigers nod off, while he honks like a clown,
“I swear these giraffes are my spirit friends, grim!”
But just as he winks, he spots his boss’ whim;
The zookeeper grins, with a quirky little frown.

“Today, I’ll be great! Just watch at this show!”
His boss rolls his eyes, but can’t help but enjoy,
As he juggles some meatballs, and tosses them low,
The hyenas all howl, and the elephants sway,
In their own special way, they enjoy the display,
“Whoever said work has to be just woe?”

So back at the zoo, where the loud laughter rings,
The zookeeper leaves with his heart light as air;
He’ll come back tomorrow, with dreams of more swings,
And a plan for the parrots to form a rock band.
At least not a pumpkin—the carnivores stand—
Tonight, it’s just sushi, and brighter things.
