In a zoo where the wild things play,
A zookeeper named Ray woke up one day,
With a grin oh so wide and some snacks on the side,
He rolled up a “doobie” and thought, "What a way!"
Into the zoo with a bounce and a sway,
He waved at the monkeys, “How’s it hangin’, okay?”
But the monkeys just giggled, and for fun, they jiggled,
As Ray plopped some peanuts in their bright orange tray.
He shuffled to lions, all furry and fierce,
“Hey, fellas! What’s roaring? Don’t take it too serious!”
But they looked quite confused, as they lounged and perused,
“Is this guy for real, or just delirious?”
The zebras all chuckled, black stripes in a haze,
“Ray’s high like a kite! What a colorful phase!”
He offered them sugar, they laughed 'til they wiggled,
While Ray tried to count them but lost track in a daze.
Then onto the penguins, he wobbled, he teetered,
“Gentlemen, prêt-à -porter! Is it fish that you’re eager?”
They squawked and they flapped as he stumbled and tripped,
“I’ll grab you some dinner, just hold tight, my sweet beakers!”
Next, in the reptile house, Ray ventured to peek,
But mistook a green snake for a slim, shiny sneak,
“Oh, what a big worm!” he declared with a grin,
While the snake just stood still, plotting just when to sneak.
As the day continued, Ray’s antics unfurled,
He forgot about feeding and swayed with the world,
But the animals loved him, they rolled in pure glee,
For a zookeeper high brought bright joy to their world.
At day's end, Ray swayed with the setting sun’s spark,
“I love you, dear creatures! You’ve lit up my heart!”
Now he skips through the gate, a smile on his face,
With a twinkle that shines like a well-aimed dart.
So if you’re a keeper, just remember this tale,
Of Ray and his high times, on an adventuresome scale,
For sometimes the best way to care for your crowd,
Is to let your heart flutter, and be silly and loud!
