In a hall where the whiffs of green delights,
Two players stared, not quite at the board,
Their pieces were knights, but their minds were lost,
As pawns danced in circles, ridin’ high on dreams,
“Is it my turn?” one asked, with a grin so wide,
“I think I’ll just chill; the king can wait awhile.”
Meanwhile, the clocks tick-tocked gently slow,
Like the hands of the king sipping coffee so strong,
While rooks plotted paths that made no sense at all,
“I’m thinking too hard,” said a queen with a sigh,
“Where’d I put my crown? Can you pass the chips?”
Then laughter erupted, as laughter will do.
“Mate in three? Or maybe just munchies?”
Said a player, who’d lost track of time—was it dusk?
His bishop had fled to the back of the fridge,
While the audience giggled, their faces turned red,
As knights did their jig, with the rooks keeping beat,
In this chess stoner bash, with moves bittersweet.
“Dude, did you see that?” one player exclaimed,
“I just flipped the board, but did it make sense?”
“If black’s on my right, why’s my queen on the left?”
With a wild, hazy laugh, his opponent suggested,
“Let’s just break for pizza; it’s good for the soul,”
As the pieces lay silent, lost in the smoke.
The judge, in a haze, wrote “Stalemate” on a plate,
As the players looked on, all confused but content.
“Wait, this isn’t chess, it’s a game of pure whim!”
With a cheer (and a puff), the tournament fell,
To a draw that the clouds above surely approved,
And the players just smiled, as they crafted their dreams.
So here’s to the knights, and the rooks on the rise,
To the kings who just chill and pretend to strategize;
In a world full of chess, where the only real goal,
Is to laugh and to share, with a heart and a bowl.
Next year we’ll compete, just as high, if not more,
In the blissful, green haze of the chess tournament lore.
