Every morning as the dawn breaks bright,
A zookeeper strolls in, grinning wide and loose,
His thoughts are floated on a clouded flight,
With munchies calling from the peanut juice.
He giggles past the monkeys, high in delight,
While plotting to teach a lion how to moose.
He checks the llamas, wearing shades of green,
“Now, listen here,” he says, with utmost care,
“Today, we’re going to dance, not just preen!”
But all they do is chew and give him a stare,
“Come on, it’s fun!” he laughs, with goofy sheen,
Their hooves tap the beat; it’s quite the affair!
By the reptile house, he finds a snake,
It’s wrapped ‘round a branch, in quite the nap,
“Hey buddy,” he slurs, “let’s take a break!”
He plops down beside it, lost in a trap,
Of dreams where they ride through a gummy lake,
And all the while, the snake’s plotting a snap.
The bears bumble forth, with a mess on their face,
“Did you eat my stash?” he shrieks in surprise,
But they shrug, looking innocent in their space,
With paws in the air—what a clever disguise!
“Alright, party time,” he beams with a trace,
While the bears play dead; what a shocking prize!
When closing time comes, he stumbles and grins,
With visions of zebras dancing in line,
“Tomorrow, I swear, no more pie or spins!”
But the smirking meerkats bark, “that’s just fine!”
With one final wave, he vows to begin,
As he heads towards the exit, singing, “Life’s divine!”
The stars twinkle down, like a magical brew,
As he stumbles home through the shimmering night,
Thinking, “I can’t wait for tomorrow’s zoo!”
Dreaming of creatures, in wild, wondrous flight,
With snacks on his mind and his heart ever true,
Our zookeeper laughs, his spirit so bright!
